These are some photographs I’ve been doing for the last four years. Jazz and improvised music is a world of surprises and emotions. They are not immediate nor straight ahead processes. Improvisation is a mysterious place which requires attention and deep compromise from the listener. Once you step in you can hardly get out. Just to embrace a new listening, a new record, and new music. Photographing the musicians during their performances, on stage or during soundchecks was a challenge. These photographs represent some musicians performing in Portugal, mostly during jazz festivals. They represent my personal view of the music and the way I saw and heard the musicians themselves in the atmosphere of their creation. Hope you like it. |

World Places |

Since the early nineties travel exercised a permanent fascination upon me. Especially to those remote places I always liked to watch on TV. People, cities, sites and landscapes were all part of unknown and distant worlds, all belonging to this immense globe. Daily life, social values and practices, religion, communities, all seemed strangely different, but also strangely appealing. One beautiful early summer day back in 1993 i suddenly decided that in 15 days i’would be flying to India to travel there and see everything i could see during the period of a month. It was a deep emotional and physical experience, also a demanding one, but overall fully rewarding. Back home i knew i wanted to go somewhere in this planet again and again and again. I continued trying to do it. These photographs are a very small portion of the overhall work that spreads over some thousands pictures. They aren’t the best ones nor the worst ones nor any other thing. They are just some good pictures that i like that bring me good memories. This small portfolio will be in permanent change. This means new images will be added from time to time, so comeback and check them out for yourself. Hope you like them. |

Welcome to my website. What could you expect? This web space was thought and created to show photographic work developed roughly throughout the last decade or so. My addiction to improvised, experimental and free languages in music, along with the inner reward they give to the senses, brought a whole new field to explore through the viewfinder. Earlier, my passion for travel was and still is, doubled by the frantic obsession to observe and get involved with places, colours, smells and people throughout this world. Again, the viewfinder was since the very beginning a way to somehow keep a visual memory. This website will not be a static one and the galleries will feature future works, either in the ‘Musicians Gallery’ and ‘World Places’, or in new sections already being in development. Those new additions will be periodically highlighted directly in this intro box. If you need any of these photos or new ones, please contact me. And thanks for looking. |
